The media, government, financial markets and your friends all tell you how bad the economy is, but the truth is what really matters is your economy. No matter what you hear and read currently upwards of 90% of people who want to work are working and trillions of dollars, pesos and yen are changing hands everyday. The question becomes “how do I get my hands on a tiny fraction of 1% of those trillions”? The answer is simple, you change your focus. Start looking at your problem as the solution, turn it on it’s head. For example, you’re a stay at home mom with 3 small children, you need an income but child care is too costly, so you offer other moms who work outside the home to care for their kids before and after school. By looking at your problem differently you have solved two problems. Another example is the business executive who is out of work and “no one is hiring”, decides he has plenty of business knowledge to share, goes around town with flyers offering small businesses free 30 minute consultations good this week only. The following week he has 20 paying clients who have hired him to help them take advantage of the growing business in their market due to companies that have recently folded. These are just two examples of what can be done by looking at problems from a different angle. Maybe in the beginning you will make less than you are accustom to but if you look at this time as an opportunity instead of a disaster you will come out much better in the end. If everyone started to work on their own economy and stop listening to the doomsayers this entire situation might just turn around. Even more importantly is that by using this simple idea your economy will turn around and isn’t that the only economy you care about.
